Anubis (formerly Gus)

Good afternoon Peggy,

Anubis is doing amazing. He has a best friend named Vader, who is a Healer/Australian Shepherd mix. They love to chase each other around. We have tried to slowly introduce him to dogs and we let him sniff other dogs when we are well acquainted with the owners. He does very well, and often times has to be the "bigger dog." For instance, his other buddies are two Labs, which we mentioned during our meetings. One of the Labs was only a few weeks old and very adamant about playing. Anubis kept his composure and just let the little dog tire himself out.

There is a dog park and we bought a leash with a 26-foot-cord so he can run around and socialize. One thing we learned is he does not like to be kept tied up, and this came to light the hard way. Last week I was eating lunch in the park and Anubis' leash was tied to the bench. I turned around just in time to notice he had chewed almost completely through the leash in a matter of seconds. Luckily he didn't get free, but we are never doing that again.

Anubis loves to play with a little toy raccoon and instantly comes running when he hears the squeak. Our biggest laughs come when he looks at us, and there is a running joke that he thinks we are beneath him. Of course, we don't think of that when he comes over and snuggles with us.

Training wise, he has been difficult, but not impossible. When he's around other dogs, he doesn't like to listen until making eye contact with me. We don't mind much, since most of the time he just wants to sniff. The crate is still an issue, and something we recently decided to seek expert help on. We are waiting for a call to have him evaluated and to possibly do some training sessions.

Attached are some pictures of Anubis enjoying life.

Respectfully,

Juan, Jenny, and Anubis
