How to Adopt
Overview
Our organization rescues stray, abandoned, and impounded Basenjis and provides them with loving foster/permanent homes. Many of our Basenjis are relinquished by owners no longer able to keep or care for them.
After an evaluation on the health, personality, and temperament of a dog, we match him/her to an appropriate new home. A complete evaluation of the prospective new home and owner is made as well. This evaluation consists of a telephone interview, a completed adoption application, and a home visit.
A signed adoption contract, which is legally binding, is required when a dog is adopted. We encourage continued communication after adoption, and offer lifetime counseling with the assurance you have our dedicated support through the entire life of the dog.
All Basenjis and Basenji mixes adopted or placed in a foster home, are required to wear the Colorado Basenji Rescue identification tag, which we provide.
When a Basenji is placed in a new home, an adoption fee is required to help with expenses such as spaying/neutering, vaccinations, tags, information on behavior problems, advertising, etc.
We are pleased about your interest in Basenjis and our rescue program. We hope to be able to help you in your search for the perfect Basenji companion!
Beginning the Process
The first step in the process of adopting a Basenji or Basenji mix from Colorado Basenji Rescue, is the completion and submission of our Pre-Adoption Questionnaire. Please complete all questions on the form, then click the "submit" button at the bottom of page. Soon after your completed questionnaire is received, a volunteer will contact you.
